Why should you invest in a baby changing mat and table?
You may say a baby changing mat and table is nursery furniture. It’s a top
level, often covered with a sheet, where you land the baby. It’s got drawers or
shelves or folds to fit in diapers, clips, wet wipes, lotions, etc.
But, if you look at and examine the baby changing mats online, you’ll find that they can be quite expensive. Along with the tables,
they are not a conventional tool that parents have used for ages. So, you may
notice yourself speculating if you need a diaper changing table at all!
Here’s why you do!
Apparent advantages of a changing table
The height of a diaper changing table makes it easier for
you to change a baby. Buy one with wheels, and you’ll be able to switch between
using it as a changing station or a bathtub holder.
With the shelves and folds and pockets, it’ll be easier for
you to store the baby’s necessities. When you need to change him/her,
everything will be available at an arm’s distance.
Think about it, as opposed to changing your baby on the
floor (hello back pain!) or the sofa (there go your knees!), a changing table
is much more convenient for you. And it can be doubled up as a dressing,
massaging, or drying station too for the baby.
Too expensive, you say? Buy secondhand
Used diaper tables come cheaper than new ones. And there is
hardly much damage to them.
They are mostly perfectly usable. You won’t need to spend
big bucks. And you can still save your back and knees while you turn a stinking
baby into a clean one.
How to choose a baby changing mat?
- Consider the material—waterproof, baby-safe, wear and tear resistant, with enough padding, and at proper height are a few preferable choices
- The dimensions should be big enough for the baby but small enough that you can handle it
- You may choose a portable table (with wheels) or a foldable one to carry around
- Folding edges are a useful feature. They’ll keep your baby from rolling and falling from the changing table
But, you won't be a horrible parent if you choose not to
buy one
A
diaper changing mat and a basket along are enough. If your kid is an
active one, diaper tables can only be hazardous. And of course, the floor is
cheaper. And your baby can crawl away from the inevitable diaper change to
his/her heart’s content.
